Chennai, Jan 21 (NationPress) The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly was adjourned for the entire day on Wednesday as members offered tributes to departed leaders and prominent figures. This occurred a day after dramatic scenes unfolded during the first Assembly session of the year following the Governor’s unexpected exit.

The Assembly reconvened at 9:30 a.m. on the second day of the session. Immediately after the proceedings commenced, Speaker M. Appavu called for a condolence meeting to honor the late Senthamangalam MLA and senior DMK leader Ku. Ponnusamy, who tragically passed away from a heart attack on October 23 last year.

Members across various political factions expressed their condolences, demonstrating a rare moment of unity in the House. Condolences were also extended to several other noteworthy individuals who have recently passed away, including industrialist Arunachalam Vellayan, esteemed poet Erode Tamilanban, veteran film producer A.V.M. Saravanan, former Lok Sabha Speaker Shivraj Patil, and several former members of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.

After the Speaker presented the obituary notes, all members observed a moment of silence for two minutes as a mark of respect. Following the tributes, the Speaker declared that the Assembly would be adjourned for the day.

This adjournment followed a contentious opening day of the Assembly session, which was marred by a controversy involving Governor R. N. Ravi.

On Tuesday, the Governor exited the House shortly after the Tamil Thai Vazhthu was sung, citing the absence of the National Anthem, and departed without delivering the traditional address. Subsequently, Speaker Appavu read the Governor’s address in Tamil, and the text was officially entered into the Assembly records, ensuring that all constitutional protocols were followed despite the disruption.

The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly is set to reconvene on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. The session will commence with the Question Hour. After this, the House will deliberate on the motion of thanks for the Governor’s address.

Members from both the ruling coalition and the opposition are expected to engage in the debate, which is anticipated to feature intense exchanges given the current political climate.

The discussion on the motion of thanks is scheduled to conclude on Saturday, when Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is expected to respond to the debate.

With the Chief Minister’s reply, the ongoing session of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly will come to a close, wrapping up a session that began amidst significant political tension and discussions of constitutional matters.
