Chennai, Nov 11 (NationPress) The president of Tamil Nadu's BJP, Nainar Nagenthran, has vehemently criticized the horrific killing of two night watchmen at the Arulmigu Nachadai Swamy Temple in Virudhunagar district. He termed this incident a disturbing reflection of the failing law and order under the DMK administration.

Law enforcement officials reported that the attack took place late on Monday night (November 10), when unknown assailants attempted to break into the temple's administrative office to loot its treasury.

The two guards, identified as Petchimuthu (55) and Sankarapandian (60), were discovered brutally murdered within the temple grounds at Devadanam near Rajapalayam early Tuesday morning, coinciding with the temple's daily 'puja' ritual.

Investigations indicated that the assailants had also confiscated the digital video recorder (DVR) linked to the CCTV system, likely to eliminate any evidence of their crime.

This temple, overseen by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department, had its office vandalized during the attempted theft. The deceased were subsequently transported to the Rajapalayam Government Hospital for autopsy.

In a post shared on X, Nagenthran expressed his outrage, stating it was “unimaginable that such a despicable act could transpire within a temple managed by the HR&CE Department,” attributing the incident to the DMK's complete failure to maintain law and order.

“This shocking double murder reveals how perilous even temple premises have become under the DMK regime. It serves as clear evidence that the government has lost grip on law and order -- even in principle,” Nagenthran remarked.

The BJP leader accused the ruling party of an “anti-Hindu bias” and “negligence in temple management,” which he believes has emboldened criminals to target places of worship.

He pointed to a “worrying trend” of temple idol vandalism, theft, and now murder.

“From desecrating temple idols to pilfering temple funds and murdering security personnel, Tamil Nadu is witnessing a troubling pattern. It raises significant concerns about the DMK government's dedication to protecting Hindu temples,” he stated.

Nagenthran urged the State Home Department to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation, cautioning against any “casual or politically influenced” inquiries.

He called for the immediate detention of those responsible and stressed the need for enhanced security at all major temples throughout the state.

“Those who committed this heinous act against innocent guards and attempted to steal temple funds must be apprehended and punished without delay. The government must act swiftly,” he insisted.

Police teams are currently on the hunt for the perpetrators, with forensic experts gathering evidence from the crime scene. Senior officials from Virudhunagar district have also conducted inspections as part of the ongoing investigation.
