Leaders from various farmers' unions report that over 3,000 acres of summer crops such as paddy, sesame, cotton, and black gram have suffered significant damage in the Thanjavur district following heavy rainfall on May 16 and 17.
The unexpected downpour also devastated banana plantations and betel leaf farms, leading to considerable agricultural setbacks throughout the area. Regions including Boothalur, Tiruvonam, Kumbakonam, and Tirupananthal experienced stagnant rainwater in fields, further intensifying the damage.
