Chennai, June 4 (NationPress) — The Tamil Nadu government has officially authorized the producers of 'Thug Life', the eagerly awaited film featuring renowned director Mani Ratnam and superstar Kamal Haasan, to conduct special early morning screenings on its release date — Thursday, June 5.
This decision was made after Raaj Kamal Films International, the production company behind the film, submitted a formal request.
As per the government's directive, the film will be showcased in five screenings on its release day, with the first show commencing at 9 a.m. on Thursday and the final show concluding by 2 a.m. on Friday.
Such special screenings outside regular hours are typically reserved for major films or those featuring popular stars or celebrated directors in Tamil Nadu.
This announcement comes amid a controversy surrounding 'Thug Life' due to a statement made by Kamal Haasan during the film’s audio launch.
The actor-politician stated that “Kannada is born out of Tamil,” a comment that ignited strong reactions in Karnataka.
Recently, the Karnataka High Court suggested that Kamal should issue an apology, which he has declined.
In response, the superstar sent a letter to the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, explaining that the uproar regarding his remarks about the Kannada language stemmed from a misunderstanding. He emphasized his stance against the superiority of one language over another.
Due to Kamal's refusal to apologize, the film’s release in Karnataka has been delayed indefinitely.
Despite the ongoing controversy, 'Thug Life' stands as one of the most anticipated Tamil films of the year.
This project marks the reunion of Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam after nearly four decades, following their iconic collaboration in 1987's 'Nayakan', a landmark film in Indian cinema.
The gangster drama boasts an impressive cast, including Silambarasan T.R. in a pivotal role, alongside Trisha, Nasser, Joju George, Abhirami, Ashok Selvan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sanya Malhotra, and Ali Fazal.
The film's score has been composed by Academy Award-winner A.R. Rahman, which further heightens the anticipation surrounding its release.
'Thug Life' is a collaborative production of Raaj Kamal Films International and Mani Ratnam’s Madras Talkies, with distribution handled by Red Giant Movies.
With soaring expectations from both fans and critics, the film's box office performance, especially in Tamil Nadu, will be closely monitored as it makes its debut tomorrow.
