Chhindwara/Nagpur, Oct 9 (NationPress) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav stated on Thursday that investigations have determined that the fatalities of the children were linked to a cough syrup produced in Tamil Nadu. The government is committed to taking actions on both humanitarian and administrative fronts.
The Chief Minister asserted that the Madhya Pradesh government will not let anyone go unpunished in the scandal involving the banned cough syrup. He confirmed that individuals responsible from a Tamil Nadu pharmaceutical firm have already been apprehended.
"Regrettably, the Tamil Nadu government has not provided the anticipated level of assistance. The Drug Controller in Tamil Nadu should have properly investigated the pharmaceutical company," Mohan Yadav stated while interacting with the media during his visit to hospitals in Nagpur.
Yadav elaborated that the Madhya Pradesh government undertook random sampling and essential testing. Consequently, a doctor from Chhindwara and other accountable individuals were suspended, and the Drug Controller was dismissed from service.
Furthermore, action has been initiated against doctors who repeatedly prescribed the banned medication manufactured by the company.
Yadav insisted that the Tamil Nadu government must enforce stringent actions in accordance with regulations.
"Preliminary investigations indicate that the fault originated at the manufacturing level. This defective medicine was given to children, leading to the tragic loss of lives," he remarked.
He noted that as soon as the report from the Tamil Nadu government was received, the Madhya Pradesh government prohibited the cough syrup.
“The owner of the pharmaceutical company has also been taken into custody,” he added.
Yadav raised concerns about who authorized the drug license for this company.
He questioned, "How could a factory operate in such a cramped space? How was the license renewed without an inspection, and how was the company granted an industrial license again? Anyone can visit the site to evaluate the conditions themselves."
Yadav emphasized that the children and families of Madhya Pradesh are the victims in this incident.
"Given that children from our state have lost their lives, the Madhya Pradesh government will not hesitate to implement strict actions against any guilty parties involved in this sensitive matter," Yadav concluded.
