Chennai, July 16 (NationPress) The counselling process for MBBS and BDS courses in Tamil Nadu for the academic year 2025-2026 is set to kick off on July 30, as announced by Health Minister Ma. Subramanian.
The state selection committee will unveil the merit list on July 25 at 10 a.m., after meticulously reviewing all submitted applications.
In a press conference, the Minister revealed that the Health Department has received a total of 72,743 applications for MBBS and BDS admissions this year. The selection committee is currently engaged in verifying these applications, with the entire assessment scheduled to conclude by July 25.
Following this, the merit list will be published, initiating the counselling process as planned by the Medical Counselling Committee under the Union Health Ministry. However, irregularities have surfaced during the document verification stage.
“Approximately 20 candidates submitted applications with forged documents,” Subramanian stated.
Among these, four students provided false Non-Resident Indian (NRI) certificates, seven presented counterfeit nativity certificates, and nine candidates submitted bogus community and nativity certificates.
The Minister confirmed that legal action will be taken against these individuals for attempting to secure admission through fraudulent methods.
Additionally, some students were noted for failing to attach crucial documents such as birth certificates or community certificates. For these cases, the government has allocated a two-day period for applicants to present the missing documents and correct discrepancies in their applications.
The Minister also announced a significant update regarding postgraduate medical education in the state, stating that the National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved the initiation of new postgraduate courses at 13 government medical colleges across Tamil Nadu.
These PG courses are anticipated to commence shortly, further strengthening the state’s medical education framework.
Tamil Nadu currently provides 5,050 MBBS seats in its government medical colleges. In total, the state offers around 11,700 MBBS seats distributed among 36 government medical colleges, 22 private medical colleges, four private universities, and 13 deemed-to-be universities.
With the counselling process approaching, authorities have assured adherence to transparency and strict regulations to guarantee fair and merit-based admissions.
