TNAU: Over 1,100 seats vacant in TN agri courses; counselling from August 24
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) has announced that more than 1,112 seats remain vacant in undergraduate agricultural courses across the state following the completion of earlier rounds of counselling. A fresh round of counselling has been scheduled from 24 to 27 August to fill these unfilled seats before the admission cycle closes for the 2025–26 academic year.
Scale of Vacancies
Of the total 5,236 seats available for agricultural courses this academic year, 4,124 seats were allotted through the general counselling process. Despite this, 1,112 seats remain unfilled across all categories. The shortfall underscores a persistent challenge in attracting students to agricultural sciences, even as the state has expanded institutional capacity.
Government School Quota Seats Also Unfilled
A dedicated admission process was conducted for students from government schools under the 7.5 per cent preferential reservation. Of the 424 seats earmarked under this quota, only 202 have been filled, leaving 222 seats vacant. Certificate verification for these candidates was held on 20 July, following which admission orders were issued to eligible students. The remaining unfilled quota seats are expected to be included in the upcoming counselling round.
How the Process Unfolded
The admission process began after TNAU released the rank list for agricultural courses at its Coimbatore campus on 3 July. Online counselling commenced on 9 July for candidates seeking admission to undergraduate programmes offered by the university and its affiliated colleges. The forthcoming round is intended to maximise seat utilisation before the window closes.
What Candidates Must Do
Eligible students who have received counselling invitations must appear on their allotted date with all prescribed academic, community, nativity, and other supporting certificates. Admission will be subject to document verification and seat availability in the preferred course and institution. TNAU has urged invited candidates to attend without fail, warning that absence on the scheduled date could cost them their admission opportunity. Full details on the counselling schedule and document requirements are available through the university's official admission channels.
With over a fifth of available seats still unfilled, the outcome of the August 24–27 counselling round will determine whether TNAU can achieve near-full enrolment before the academic year begins.
