New Delhi, July 14 (NationPress) The area sown under the current Kharif season has risen to 597.86 lakh hectares this year, compared to 560.59 lakh hectares during the same timeframe last year, as per the data released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare on Monday. This growth in sown area is promising for increased production, which is expected to enhance farmers' incomes and assist in controlling food inflation.
According to the official statistics, the area dedicated to rice has reached 123.68 lakh hectares as of July 11 this year, up from 111.85 lakh hectares in the corresponding period last year.
The sown area for pulses like Urad and Moog stands at 67.09 lakh hectares, compared to 53.39 lakh hectares last year. This increase of nearly 14 lakh hectares is a positive sign, as enhanced pulse production is crucial for managing inflation.
