Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bhopal, Jan 5 (NationPress) Rashmi Verma, a 24-year-old medical professional, tragically passed away on Monday after being treated at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhopal, for 25 days due to an alleged overdose of an anaesthetic injection. Dr. Verma, who served as an Assistant Professor in the Emergency and Trauma Centre, was discovered unconscious in her hostel room on December 11, exhibiting a weak pulse and heartbeat. She was promptly admitted to the institute that evening and had been on ventilator support ever since.
Despite relentless medical efforts from her colleagues, her condition continued to deteriorate, leading to her death on Monday.
An official from AIIMS Bhopal confirmed her passing to IANS, stating that Dr. Verma died around 10 a.m. and her remains were returned to her family. The official refrained from providing additional details due to a police investigation currently underway.
Previously, AIIMS Bhopal reported that an MRI scan performed 72 hours following her admission showed signs of brain injury and extended oxygen deprivation.
Colleagues noted that Dr. Verma had completed her shift on December 11 and returned home later that evening. Her husband, Dr. Ratan Verma, an orthopaedic specialist, found her unconscious when he checked on her around 10:30 p.m. after noticing something was amiss.
Dr. Ratan Verma shared earlier with the media that everything seemed normal at home, with family members engaged in their usual routines. Upon discovering his wife in an unconscious state, suspicions arose regarding a possible sedative overdose. The family was left in shock.
Dr. Rashmi Verma held an MD in General Medicine and was involved in various administrative roles at AIIMS Bhopal, including overseeing the Basic Life Support program and nursing training sessions.
She completed her MBBS at MLN Medical College in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Her professional interests spanned diabetes, hypertension, metabolic syndrome, palliative care, emergency medicine, and emergency care interventions.
