Dr. Manmohan Singh rose to prominence as the Finance Minister under P.V. Narasimha Rao's government from 1991 to 1996, implementing sweeping reforms that transformed the economy.

He held the position of Prime Minister during two consecutive terms from 2004 to 2014 and remained a Rajya Sabha member until earlier this year.

Throughout his political career, Singh was a Rajya Sabha member since 1991, serving as the Leader of the Opposition from 1998 to 2004.

Manmohan Singh took the oath of office as Prime Minister on May 22, 2004, after the general elections and was sworn in for a second term on May 22, 2009.

He represented Assam for five terms in the Upper House and transitioned to Rajasthan in 2019.

His final address in Parliament was a critique of demonetization, which he termed an "organized loot and legalized plunder."
