Yogi Adityanath Expresses Grief Over Dr. Manmohan Singh's Passing: A Significant Loss for Indian Politics

New Delhi, Dec 27 (NationPress) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed his condolences regarding the death of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, stating that his departure is an irreparable loss to Indian politics.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister remarked: "The passing of renowned economist and former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh is deeply saddening and represents an irreparable loss to Indian politics. He significantly contributed to the governance of our nation as both Finance Minister and Prime Minister. A humble tribute to his legacy!"
"I beseech Lord Shri Ram to bestow peace upon his soul and provide strength to his grieving family and supporters during this profound sorrow. Om Shanti!"
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi confirmed the news of Dr. Singh's passing.
"With deep sadness, we announce the death of former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, aged 92. He was undergoing treatment for age-related health issues and suffered a sudden loss of consciousness at home on December 26. Resuscitation efforts began immediately, and he was transported to AIIMS's emergency services. Despite all medical attempts, he could not be revived and was pronounced dead at 9:51 PM," the hospital stated on Thursday. Dr. Manmohan Singh was 92 years old.
Dr. Singh, who held the office of Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, is celebrated for his transformative influence in guiding India's economy through a period of substantial liberalization.
He is survived by his wife, Gursharan Kaur, and their three daughters. Arrangements for his funeral are anticipated to be announced shortly, with national leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expected to pay their respects. Dr. Singh's passing signifies the conclusion of an era in Indian politics, and his leadership and legacy will serve as an inspiration for future generations.
This past April, Manmohan Singh retired from the Rajya Sabha, with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge commending his extensive parliamentary journey.
Dr. Manmohan Singh gained recognition as Finance Minister in the P.V. Narasimha Rao administration from 1991 to 1996, implementing sweeping reforms that revitalized the economy.
Serving as the UPA's Prime Minister for two consecutive terms from 2004 to 2014, he was a member of the Rajya Sabha until early this year.
Throughout his political career, Dr. Singh was a Rajya Sabha member since 1991 and held the position of Leader of the Opposition from 1998 to 2004.
He took the oath as Prime Minister on May 22 following the 2004 general elections and was sworn in for a second term on May 22, 2009.
He represented Assam in the Upper House for five terms before transitioning to Rajasthan in 2019.
His final speech in Parliament was a critique of demonetization, which he labeled as an "organized loot and legalized plunder."
