New Delhi, Dec 27 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday delivered heartfelt tributes to the late former Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, representing the nation's gratitude for his invaluable contributions to India's progress, notably his transformative actions in 1991.
Dr. Manmohan Singh, who served as India's 14th Prime Minister and was widely recognized as a leading economist, passed away at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the national capital late Thursday night at the age of 92.
In a video tribute released on Friday morning, PM Modi expressed that the loss of Dr. Manmohan Singh is a profound one for the country, emphasizing that his contributions to India's development will always be cherished.
PM Modi articulated that Dr. Manmohan Singh's life serves as a beacon of how individuals can surmount challenges and adversities while creating a lasting impact that inspires future generations.
"Dr. Manmohan Singh's journey epitomized honesty and simplicity. He was a remarkable parliamentarian, and his life story will always serve as a lesson on achieving success by transcending hardship and struggle," stated the Prime Minister.
"He will forever be remembered as an honest individual, a distinguished economist, and a leader who pioneered numerous reforms. His contributions as an economist were invaluable to our nation. He played a crucial role during trying times as the RBI Governor.
“While serving as the Finance Minister in former PM Bharat Ratna P.V. Narasimha Rao's cabinet, he provided our country with a new direction amidst a dire economic crisis," PM Modi elaborated.
PM Modi also reminisced about his recent interaction with Dr. Singh in Parliament, describing him as a beloved figure who transcended political divisions.
“Earlier this year, as his Rajya Sabha tenure concluded, I remarked that his integrity serves as a source of inspiration for fellow parliamentarians. He was a charming politician who rose above party lines and fostered amicable relationships with leaders from all corners of the nation,” PM Modi noted in his video message.
Furthermore, PM Modi highlighted that Dr. Singh received education from some of the world's top institutions, held high-ranking government positions, yet never lost sight of the values rooted in our shared heritage.
“He consistently maintained connections with leaders from various parties, demonstrating his accessibility and willingness to engage with everyone,” he concluded.
