Itanagar, July 9 (NationPress) Former MLA Kapchen Rajkumar of Arunachal Pradesh tragically lost his life due to an elephant attack on Wednesday while he was en route from Namsang village to Deomali town in Tirap district, as confirmed by officials.

The 65-year-old ex-legislator is survived by his wife and several children. He was a member of the Arunachal Pradesh Assembly representing the former Khonsa North Assembly Constituency from 1985 to 1990.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed his condolences regarding Rajkumar's death and directed the administration to expedite the ex-gratia grant for the grieving family.

In his post on X, the Chief Minister stated: “I am deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Kapchen Rajkumar, former MLA from Tirap, who became a victim of this unfortunate incident.”

“His commitment to the community and contributions to our society will always be cherished. Late Kapchen Rajkumar’s dedication to the welfare of the people and his relentless pursuit of progress for Tirap will leave a significant impact,” he added.

Born on April 15, 1960, in Namsang village, Rajkumar was the son of Wangmei Rajkumar, a former acting chief of the village. He initially attended Ramakrishna Mission School, Narottamnagar, Deomali, and later studied at Government Higher Secondary School, Khonsa.

Prior to entering politics, Rajkumar completed a commercial pilot training course at Safdarjung Airport, New Delhi.

Family sources indicated that his final rites would take place on Thursday in Namsang, his birthplace. State Forest and Environment Minister Wangki Lowang, who represents Namsang constituency, also expressed his sorrow over Rajkumar's passing.
