Bengaluru, Feb 16 (NationPress) The remains of Chandan Kumar, a 37-year-old software engineer, who tragically lost his life to unidentified gunmen in the parking lot of a bustling shopping mall in Toronto, Canada, on February 7, have arrived in his native town Tyamagondlu in Bengaluru Rural district, ten days post the incident.
His parents expressed their sorrow to the media on Monday, stating that their son’s virtuous actions have provided them with both pride and comfort. They prayed for his soul and remarked that no one should have to experience such profound grief.
The body landed at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru from Delhi late Sunday night. Following this, it was transported by ambulance to Nelamangala before being taken to Tyamagondlu.
Family members mentioned that the body would be available for public viewing from 12 noon to 3 pm on Monday, with the final rites scheduled to be conducted at the premises of Aryavaishya Sangha.
Chandan’s father, Nandan Kumar, shared that they received their son’s body on the auspicious day of Maha Shivaratri and conveyed their deep sorrow regarding their loss.
“We got our son’s body on Shivaratri. May God grant him another life. He was never a burden to us. We had no idea he was so esteemed and held in high regard. He never confided his struggles to us. He had encouraged us to move to Canada, but we opted not to. Today, our hearts are shattered. No one should suffer like this,” he lamented.
His mother, Shylaja, stated that her son's good deeds would continue to be a source of pride and solace for the family.
“God took him from us just as he was about to embrace a fruitful phase in his life. From his childhood, he was devoted to good deeds, receiving accolades and admiration everywhere. There’s not a single mistake one can attribute to him. He always ensured we were untroubled. The pain I feel is indescribable. Since his birth, he has been a beacon of goodness, which brings me some comfort. May God grant peace to his soul,” she expressed.
Chandan Kumar was the victim of a shooting on February 7 in Toronto. The Canadian authorities are actively investigating the case.
On February 8, the Toronto Police identified the victim as Chandan Kumar Raja Nandakumar, a resident of Brampton in the Greater Toronto Area.
Chandan was sitting inside his SUV when assailants opened fire near the entrance of the Woodbine Shopping Centre around 3:30 PM local time, with visuals revealing his white vehicle peppered with bullet holes. Investigators are treating this incident as a targeted attack, with the attackers fleeing the scene post shooting.
A graduate in computer science from Saptagiri College in Bengaluru, Chandan had moved to Canada approximately six years ago and was employed at LTI Mindtree, a subsidiary of L&T. He previously worked at Cognizant in Bengaluru.
Chandan was an active participant in Kannada cultural circles in Toronto, playing a significant role in the promotion of Kannada films, music, and community events.
Family members noted that Chandan had consistently postponed his return to India, suggesting that had he returned as initially planned, he might still be alive.
