Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Feb 10 (NationPress) Karnataka's Home Minister, G. Parameshwara, made a heartfelt visit to the home of Chandan Kumar, a software professional tragically murdered in Canada. He met with grieving family members in Tyamagondlu, located on the outskirts of Bengaluru.
During his interaction with the media, Parameshwara highlighted that Chandan was a promising young talent whose life was cut short. An inquiry is currently in progress to uncover the details surrounding the incident and identify those responsible. "I have been in touch with his friends in Canada. The investigation will reveal the truth," he remarked.
He also mentioned that the body has been embalmed and is set to be made available for friends and neighbors in Canada on Wednesday. "Tentatively, the body is expected to arrive here by Saturday," he informed.
"Currently, we have no information regarding the motive behind his murder. I extend my deepest condolences and pray for his soul. He was the only child of his parents, and they have no other offspring. This is an incredibly tragic tale. He was a talented individual who had moved to Canada to serve as a project director. I am profoundly saddened by this occurrence," Parameshwara added.
He urged Canadian authorities to take necessary actions. "I pray that his family finds the strength to endure this tragedy. Our Indian High Commission is informed of the situation and will ensure all formalities are completed for the return of the body," he concluded.
Meanwhile, Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, H.D. Kumaraswamy, reached out to Chandan Kumar's father, Nandan Kumar, over the phone to express his condolences. Kumaraswamy encouraged him to remain strong and assured him that arrangements are in place to repatriate Chandan's body to India. "The Ministry of External Affairs is coordinating with Canadian authorities, and the body will be returned to India. I plan to visit your home when I am in Bengaluru," he stated.
Chandan Kumar, aged 37, was fatally shot by unknown assailants in the parking lot of a bustling shopping center in Toronto, Canada, on February 7. Toronto Police confirmed the victim's identity as Chandan Kumar Raja Nandakumar of Brampton in the Greater Toronto Area in a statement issued on February 8.
Reports indicate that Chandan was inside his SUV when the assailants opened fire near the entrance of the Woodbine Shopping Centre around 3:30 PM local time. Visual evidence showed his white vehicle peppered with bullet holes, and authorities are treating this as a targeted attack. The attackers fled the scene shortly after the shooting.
A computer science graduate from Saptagiri College in Bengaluru, Chandan had relocated to Canada approximately six years ago and was employed with LTI Mindtree, a subsidiary of L&T. Previously, he worked with Cognizant in Bengaluru.
Chandan was actively engaged in promoting Kannada culture in Toronto, playing a significant role in supporting Kannada films, music, and community events.
Family members shared that Chandan had frequently postponed his return to India, suggesting that had he returned as initially planned, he might still be alive.
