Patna, June 9 (NationPress) In a tragic event, two individuals from a family lost their lives while another sustained injuries in the Arfabad area under the jurisdiction of Alamganj police station in Patna on Monday, as reported by officials.
The shooting occurred around 9:15 a.m. when the victims—a retired nurse, Mahalaxmi Mehta, her spouse Dhananjay Mehta, and their daughter—were headed to the local market. They were allegedly targeted by two assailants on a motorcycle who opened fire before fleeing the scene.
All three victims suffered gunshot wounds and were quickly transported to Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) for medical assistance. Unfortunately, Mahalaxmi and her daughter, who sustained bullet wounds to the chest, abdomen, and back, succumbed to their injuries during treatment due to severe blood loss.
Dhananjay Mehta, who was shot in the leg, is currently receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
“Mahalaxmi and her daughter passed away while receiving medical care,” stated the SHO of Alamganj police station.
Atulesh Jha, Additional Superintendent of Police for Patna City, verified the occurrence and mentioned that initial inquiries suggest personal enmity might have been the motive behind this attack.
“We are investigating all possibilities and awaiting Dhananjay Mehta’s recovery to record his statement, which will be crucial for the investigation,” Jha noted.
Surveillance footage from the vicinity is under examination, and efforts are underway to identify and capture the perpetrators.
A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) has collected spent cartridges and other forensic evidence from the crime scene for analysis.
This incident has raised alarm among local residents regarding the increasing frequency of shooting incidents in the densely populated Alamganj area, located along the narrow and congested Ashok Rajpath in Patna City.
