Kolkata, April 18 (NationPress) A tragic incident unfolded at the IIT Kharagpur campus in West Midnapore district, where another student has reportedly succumbed to suicide. The individual, identified as Jaibir Singh Dodia (21), allegedly leapt from the eighth floor of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Hall on Saturday morning.

Upon learning of the event, officers from the Hijli police station, part of the Kharagpur Town police, promptly arrived at the scene.

The young man was rushed to BC Roy Hospital, where he was unfortunately pronounced dead upon arrival. The authorities at IIT Kharagpur have since notified the family of the deceased.

As per police reports, the late student hailed from the Ghuma area of Ahmedabad. He was in his third year studying Mechanical Engineering and was residing in Nehru Hall on the IIT Kharagpur campus.

Other students reported finding him on the ground after he allegedly jumped from the eighth floor of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Hall. He was quickly transported to the hospital by security personnel and fellow students.

The police have initiated an investigation to uncover the circumstances, including how he transitioned from Nehru Hall to the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Hall and accessed the rooftop.

Investigators are examining CCTV footage to ascertain the timing of the student’s departure from Nehru Hall.
