Khordha, April 20 (NationPress) The Women of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in this city of Odisha are crafting motivational narratives of empowerment through the 'Lakhpati Didi' initiative.

With a collaborative effort from the Odisha government and the Central government, this program is being executed via the Odisha Livelihoods Mission (OLM) to bolster women both economically and socially.

The scheme's objective is to render women self-sufficient by fostering entrepreneurship and granting access to skill development training. As part of this initiative, qualified women are provided with zero-interest loans of up to Rs 5 lakh to expand their enterprises. Ranging from tailoring to manufacturing, these women are not only learning to be independent but also evolving into vital support systems for their families and communities.

Several beneficiaries shared their uplifting stories of strength, resilience, and transformation with IANS.

Rihana Begum, a beneficiary of the scheme, recounted her journey by saying, 'I availed a loan through my SHG and purchased a sewing machine. Now, I earn by stitching clothes and also teach sewing to other women. Becoming a Lakhpati Didi has instilled confidence in me. I am thankful to the government for acknowledging and supporting our aspirations.'

Madhusmita Sahu, another inspiring entrepreneur, revolutionized her life by establishing a paper plate-making business.

'After receiving government assistance, I commenced my venture through our SHG. Today, I am not only financially independent but also able to support others’ livelihoods. I take pride in being a Lakhpati Didi,' she expressed.

These narratives symbolize a silent revolution in rural Odisha - one where women are dismantling barriers and reshaping their destinies.

With timely support, training, and financial inclusion, the Lakhpati Didi program is cultivating thousands of micro-entrepreneurs who are crafting a brighter and more inclusive future.
