Srinagar, September 25 (NationPress) The Lieutenant Governor (L-G) of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, announced on Thursday that the Rs 1 lakh crore Urban Challenge Fund aimed at redeveloping 300 cities across various states and Union Territories (UTs) will serve as a significant turning point.
He stated, "The 1 lakh crore rupee Urban Challenge Fund will revolutionize our cities and help develop them into growth hubs." L-G Sinha emphasized that this initiative, which involves collaboration between states/UTs and private stakeholders, will enhance innovation, establish robust infrastructure, improve the ease of living, and incorporate sustainability into urban planning.
During the Governing Council Meeting of the All India Forum of Real Estate Regulatory Authorities (AIFORERA) at Kashmir University in Srinagar, he urged a 'Whole of the Government' approach to advance this sector and ensure accountability for timely project delivery.
"The transparency, accountability, and efficiency ensured by the RERA Act, 2016, must safeguard homebuyers' interests, and a quick grievance redressal mechanism is essential for transforming this sector into a more regulated and efficient industry," he remarked.
L-G Sinha also discussed the complexities, challenges, and opportunities within the real estate sector.
He called upon private entities and real estate developers to take greater responsibility in promoting affordable housing.
"Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, the real estate sector is becoming a key player in achieving the vision of 'Viksit Bharat'."
"This swift growth stems from the aspirations of everyday citizens. The real estate sector must pursue equitable development and urban transformation, ensuring fairness and transparency for those aspiring to own homes," he added.
"I envision this sector becoming more competitive to spur growth. There should be consistency and harmony in housing regulations across states and UTs," he stated.
The L-G also encouraged real estate developers to focus more on the health and education of the families of workers involved in housing projects.
He highlighted that the welfare of those constructing our homes should be prioritized.
Additionally, he urged AIFORERA to collaborate with developer groups such as NAREDCO (National Real Estate Development Council) to ensure that workers and their families are not deprived of their fundamental rights.
He emphasized the need for real-time monitoring of housing projects and awareness initiatives for buyers.
On this occasion, the L-G launched the Journal and Annual Report 2024-25 of AIFORERA.
Numerous dignitaries attended the inaugural session, including Anand Kumar, AIFORERA Chairman; Satish Chandra, Chairman of J&K Real Estate Regulatory Authority (JKRERA); Mandeep Kaur, Commissioner Secretary of the Housing and Urban Development Department; and other senior officials.
