Mumbai, July 15 (NationPress) Maharashtra Cooperation Minister Babasaheb Patil stated on Tuesday that the redevelopment process of cooperative housing societies in the state will be characterized by transparency and the assurance of justice for its members.
In response to a calling attention motion introduced by Assembly member Haroon Khan, the Minister elaborated on the situation. Eight cooperative housing societies, including Rohit Apartments in Andheri West, have agreed to redevelop their buildings. To maximize the benefits of this redevelopment, a project management consultant was appointed. A developer's offer letter was received, indicating a preference not to submit a public tender during the general meeting. In light of requests from these societies for the appointment of an authority officer to select the developer, the Deputy Registrar of the Western Division was appointed as the authority officer.
During the developer selection meeting for the eight societies, it was noted that two-thirds of the members were absent as per government regulations. However, due to the presence of elderly members and foreign residents, online participation was permitted. Ultimately, the developer was selected by majority in the general meeting, once the requisite quorum was met.
A written consent letter has been issued accordingly.
Out of the eight societies, only one member from the Arena Organisation has filed a petition in the Cooperative Court and the High Court, making the matter sub-judice.
The Minister pointed out that the redevelopment process raises concerns regarding the lack of quorum maintained through physical presence and the absence of a public tender.
Nonetheless, he emphasized that according to a ruling by the High Court concerning redevelopment, the state government is not obligated to follow its decision, and registrars hold the authority to act against the relevant housing society committee. Transparency will indeed be introduced in the redevelopment process of cooperative housing societies, ensuring that members receive fair justice.
