Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 3 (NationPress) The president of the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB), P. S. Prasanth, announced that the Kerala High Court will be informed of all developments regarding the Sabarimala gold plating controversy. The Board intends to request a thorough investigation covering events dating back to 1999.
Prasanth commented, “Potti has now fallen into the pit that he had dug,” referring to Unnikrishnan Potti, who raised significant funds under the false pretense of gold plating for the temple.
The situation escalated as new revelations surfaced about Potti's financial activities.
Intelligence officials have commenced investigations into his multi-crore land transactions, with evidence indicating he allegedly provided loans and purchased land throughout Kerala.
A former Devaswom contractor in the state capital is suspected of serving as his intermediary.
Meanwhile, the Devaswom Vigilance is scheduled to interrogate Potti on Saturday.
Investigators claim there were serious discrepancies in the management of the gold plating of the 'dwarapalaka' (guardian deity) idols, along with the mysterious disappearance of a pedestal.
Records indicate that the gold sheets were removed on July 20, 2019, but were sent to Chennai-based Smart Creations only after a delay of 40 days, raising questions about their whereabouts during that time.
Upon their return, four kilograms of gold were reported missing, a discrepancy not documented in the official 'mahasar' (inventory report). Devaswom employees may also be held accountable for this oversight.
The Vigilance noted that Potti, under the guise of being a sponsor, had conducted extensive fundraising in the name of Sabarimala.
There are suspicions that the gold sheets were transported to Bengaluru, evading regulations as part of this money-raising scheme.
Compounding the controversy, Potti organized a Sabarimala event in Chennai, which featured popular actor Jayaram, highlighting his high-profile involvement in the temple project.
With Prasanth now calling for a detailed investigation from 1999 to the present, questions arise regarding the integrity of the CPI(M), as it has held the presidency for 16 years, while the Congress-led UDF occupied the post for 10 years.
