Kolkata, Aug 9 (NationPress) The son of a Trinamool Congress leader and head of a village panchayat has been fatally shot in a daylight incident. This shocking event took place in the Cooch Behar district of West Bengal on Saturday.
The victim has been identified as Amar Roy, the son of Kuntala Roy, the head of the local Dawaguri village panchayat. Amar was an active participant in the youth wing of the Trinamool Congress.
Witnesses reported to the police that Amar, accompanied by an associate, was at a weekly market when a confrontation arose with another group of youths who arrived on motorcycles.
“Out of nowhere, one of the motorcycle riders pulled out a firearm and shot Amar at point-blank range,” recounted an eyewitness to the media.
Struck in the head, Amar collapsed and was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Meanwhile, the assailants fled the scene on their motorcycles.
Cooch Behar's police superintendent, Dyutiman Bhattacharya, informed the media about the group arriving on two motorcycles.
“We are currently investigating the incident,” he stated.
It remains unclear whether the motive behind the murder was personal rivalry or political animosity.
Cooch Behar recently made headlines due to an attack on the convoy of the opposition leader in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, allegedly orchestrated by Trinamool Congress activists.
A complaint has been filed against 41 individuals, including a local Trinamool Congress leader and the West Bengal minister for North Bengal Development, Udayan Guha.
Adhikari has claimed that he could have been killed in the attack had he not been in a bulletproof vehicle.
