Kolkata, June 14 (NationPress) On Saturday, the leadership of the Trinamool Congress issued a stern final warning to Anubrata Mondal, the party's influential figure and former district president in Birbhum, regarding his public conduct, which has caused considerable embarrassment to the party's senior officials in West Bengal.
Recently, an audio recording surfaced, capturing Mondal making vile threats towards a police officer, including a threat to assault his mother and wife. Initially, Mondal asserted that the recording was a product of artificial intelligence, but later he acknowledged that it was indeed his voice issuing those disturbing threats.
During his visit to Kolkata for an internal party meeting aimed at finalizing the preparations for the annual “Martyrs’ Day” event on July 21, Mondal was approached separately by state party president Subrata Bakshi and Bengal power minister Arup Biswas at the Trinamool Congress headquarters.
Bakshi formally cautioned Mondal to exercise utmost caution regarding his public demeanor in the future. A member of the state Cabinet, familiar with the meeting's proceedings, confirmed that Mondal has been warned that further incidents similar to the audio clip would not be tolerated.
Also present was another prominent Trinamool leader from Birbhum, Kajal Sheikh, often viewed as Mondal’s fierce rival within the party.
“Bakshi instructed both Mondal and Sheikh to set aside their differences and collaborate ahead of the critical West Bengal assembly elections next year,” the Cabinet member stated.
The audio clip has been a source of significant discomfort for the Trinamool Congress, prompting the National Commission of Women (NCW) to send multiple communications to state police chief Rajeev Kumar, accusing the police of hesitancy in taking appropriate action against Mondal.
It’s important to remember that Mondal was apprehended by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in August 2022 concerning a multi-crore cattle smuggling scandal in West Bengal. He was subsequently detained by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
After spending more than two years in Tihar Jail in Delhi, Mondal was recently released on bail and returned to his residence in Bolpur, Birbhum district.
Simultaneously, CBI officials have initiated a new inquiry to determine if any witnesses in the cattle smuggling case have faced intimidation from Mondal or his associates to alter their statements made to the agency.
