Kolkata, Nov 17 (NationPress) The Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, a prominent figure in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), stated on Monday that the Trinamool Congress is visibly shaken by the recent Special Intensive Revision (SIR) initiative in the state.

LoP Adhikari claims that the party led by Mamata Banerjee is resisting efforts to preserve their electoral base, which consists of deceased and unauthorized voters on the electoral lists.

During a press briefing, the BJP leader presented a PowerPoint demonstration illustrating how the Trinamool Congress profits from numerous duplicate voters, deceased individuals, instances of double voting at the same polling booth, and votes cast by infiltrators.

In his presentation, LoP Adhikari also showcased a video depicting 'Bangladeshi infiltrators' escaping across the border.

"The source of Trinamool's distress is evident. The party is alarmed to witness the removal of names belonging to deceased and duplicate voters due to the SIR initiative. In the 2002 SIR operation, 2.6 million names were eliminated. This time, an even larger number will be discarded. Many more names would have been removed if the state government had collaborated with the Election Commission. This time, we expect an 80 percent success rate for the SIR process," he said.

Furthermore, LoP Adhikari criticized the Trinamool Congress administration, alleging a significant alliance between certain Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and Block Development Officers (BDOs).

He accused this alliance of attempting to thwart the Election Commission's endeavors to eliminate fictitious voters and illegal residents from the rolls.

He further contended that the revision process has faced hostility since its commencement.

"The Tamluk BDO has been misleading BLOs concerning deceased and relocated voters. In the North 24 Parganas district, officials responsible for the SIR process have been pressuring BLOs to distribute enumeration forms at abandoned addresses," LoP Adhikari claimed.

He stated that the BJP had submitted a list of 1.325 million fraudulent voters to the electoral commission and asserted that in 20 Assembly constituencies, between 50 and 150 deceased voters were identified in each booth.

Point of View

It is clear that the political dynamics are shifting. The allegations raised by the opposition against the Trinamool Congress underscore the need for transparency and integrity in the electoral process. As the nation observes, maintaining a fair electoral environment is crucial for democracy.
