Kolkata, July 26 (NationPress) A Trinamool Congress worker has tragically died from injuries sustained in a brutal attack in the Rejinagar area of Murshidabad district on Saturday, just four days after being viciously assaulted by a group of miscreants.
On July 21, Pratik Pal (43), a dedicated Trinamool worker, was targeted while returning home in Rejinagar. He suffered severe injuries to his head, arms, and legs after being struck with iron rods and a hammer.
Local residents came to his aid, transporting him to Murshidabad Medical College Hospital, where he was treated until he sadly succumbed to his injuries on Friday night.
In response to this heinous act, the victim's family filed a complaint against six individuals at the Rejinagar police station on Saturday.
The police have initiated an investigation into the incident, actively searching for the individuals responsible for this brutal act. Murshidabad SP Sunny Raj stated that the police are examining all possible motives behind the murder, declaring, 'We are exploring every angle.'
According to the victim's brother, Paritosh Pal, there had been a history of violence involving BJP worker Sagar Biswas and others during the last panchayat elections in 2023, where they allegedly assaulted his family.
“We previously lodged a complaint against them. After Sagar Ghosh was unable to secure a government job due to police verification, he and other BJP workers threatened my brother's life and pressured him to withdraw the complaint. Now, they have brutally killed him to seek revenge,” he stated.
In contrast, Laltu Das, the BJP general secretary for South Murshidabad district, claimed that the individuals named in the murder case were previously members of the BJP but have since defected to the Trinamool Congress.
“This incident is a result of internal strife within the Trinamool Congress, and the BJP is not involved,” he asserted.
Ashok Das, a leader of the Trinamool and former district party president, accused the BJP of reigniting a climate of fear ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. “We will not allow the BJP to engage in murder politics. We demand prompt police action against the culprits,” he stated.
It is worth mentioning that just days earlier, another Trinamool Congress worker was killed by miscreants in Bharatpur, Murshidabad district.
