Kolkata, Jan 15 (NationPress) The general secretary of the Trinamool Congress and the party's Lok Sabha member Abhishek Banerjee acknowledged the increasing infighting within the party on Wednesday, referring to this factionalism as a typical occurrence in any political organization as it expands.

“As a political party expands, factionalism is an inherent process. Is factionalism not present in the Trinamool Congress? Was there no factionalism in the CPI(M) when they held power in West Bengal?”

“Similar differences can be observed within families. Conflicts are inevitable in a party with various leadership layers. This is quite natural,” stated Abhishek Banerjee during an event in his Lok Sabha constituency of Diamond Harbour, located in South 24 Parganas district, West Bengal.

He also emphasized that the Trinamool leadership consistently strives to curb factionalism within the party.

“The party’s internal disciplinary committee is proactive in addressing those who undermine the party from within.

“In the future, such checks and balances will remain in place. If anyone engages in criminal conduct, the party will not shield them, and strict disciplinary measures will follow,” noted Abhishek Banerjee.

Political analysts highlight that Abhishek Banerjee's comments carry weight, particularly given the recent factionalism in the state’s ruling party in Malda district, which has resulted in the murder of two local leaders this month.

During the event, Abhishek Banerjee also brought attention to the murder of party councillor from Ward number 22 of English Bazar Municipality in Malda district, Dulal Sarkar, known as Babla.

Babla was shot dead on January 2 in broad daylight. The police have detained the Trinamool Congress president of Malda town and the head of the party’s Hindi cell in the district, Narendra Nath Tiwari, as the orchestrator of the murder.

“Tiwari's arrest demonstrates that the police in West Bengal can function without bias, free from the influence of the ruling party.

“Such impartiality is absent in BJP-ruled states and was never seen during the previous Left Front regime in West Bengal,” concluded Abhishek Banerjee.
