Has Trinamool's Theme Song Portrayed CM Mamata as a ‘Tigress’ for Bengal Assembly Elections?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Jan 10 (NationPress) On Saturday, the Trinamool Congress unveiled its theme song for the forthcoming Assembly elections. In this composition, CM Mamata Banerjee, hailed as the daughter of Bengal, is depicted as a “tigress”. This song is inspired by the party's newly introduced election slogan: “No matter how much you attack, Bengal will win again.” The lyrics consistently emphasize the importance of safeguarding and promoting Bengal’s rich traditions and culture against the BJP.
In the previous Assembly elections of 2021, the theme song ‘Khela Hobe’ (game on) showcased Mamata Banerjee as the cherished daughter of Bengal, underpinned by the slogan: “Bengal wants its own daughter.” This time, she is reimagined as a guardian of Bengali culture and heritage.
The new three-minute track focuses on Trinamool leader Mamata Banerjee and the party's All India General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee. The main video weaves together brief clips from various party rallies, meetings, and processions.
The party released the video across its official social media platforms, stating: “Our campaign song for #AbarJitbeBangla is finally here, ready to ignite every corner of Bengal! Tune in and feel the raw power of our land; the defiant pulse of Bengal beating strong, the unbreakable resolve of millions who refuse to be silenced, the thunderous roar of a people rising as one against every conspiracy and attack. This song is the heartbeat of our resistance, the anthem of our pride, the voice of Ma-Mati-Manush declaring: Jotoi Koro Hamla, Abar Jitbe Bangla!”
In recent days, Trinamool Congress supporters have been referring to Mamata Banerjee as a “tigress” on social media.
The imagery of the Trinamool leader as a tigress has now been cemented in the election-themed song.
Simultaneously, the Trinamool Congress has accused the BJP of being outsiders attempting to systematically erase Bengal’s linguistic and cultural identity. Through this new song, the ruling party aims to communicate that Bengal is acutely aware of the politics of hatred and religious polarization being targeted against it.
Through the lyrics, the Trinamool intends to illustrate to the public how the BJP is undermining language, culture, and coexistence by weaponizing religion.
The song also reiterates the long-standing demands that the Trinamool has directed towards the Central government. From withholding funds allocated for Bengal to disrespecting Bengali intellectuals, from alleged voter list manipulation to the interference of central agencies, all these issues have found a voice in the song.
