Agartala, Sep 8 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, announced on Monday that 11,130 smartphones have been distributed to Anganwadi workers as part of the ‘Poshan Abhiyaan’ initiative to enhance nutritional services aimed at adolescent girls, pregnant women, and lactating mothers.
The Chief Minister stated that these mobile devices will have the Poshan Tracker app installed, which will facilitate better tracking and information about daily activities.
Launched on March 8, 2018, the Poshan Abhiyaan seeks to improve the nutritional status of vulnerable groups in a timely manner by employing a synergized and results-driven approach.
During an event inaugurating 14 projects and laying the foundation for 5 more under the Social Welfare and Social Education Department, the Chief Minister emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi aims to create a developed India by 2047. He has tasked states with preparing a roadmap, and Tripura has already crafted its own plan for development.
Additionally, 46 Anganwadi centres have been established under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and the North East Special Infrastructure Development scheme.
The primary goal of these centres is to deliver essential services in nutrition, health, and pre-primary education. Furthermore, aftercare homes are being established for young women aged 18 to 21 as stipulated by the Juvenile Justice Act 2015. These initiatives aim to empower them through food security, education, vocational training, life skills, and psychological support.
According to the Chief Minister, 101 children have received rehabilitation grants of Rs 50,000 each for social reintegration.
Over the past three years, 144 children have benefitted from financial aid ranging from Rs 20,000 to Rs 3 lakh under the Juvenile Justice Fund. For the financial year 2024-25, sponsorship of Rs 4,000 per month has been allocated to approximately 4,286 children. In total, 940 children have been sheltered in 44 children’s homes across eight districts in the state. Additionally, 31 children have been adopted by the government in the last three years, Saha reported.
To ensure effective management of the Anganwadi centres, over 1,400 Anganwadi workers and 1,615 Anganwadi helpers have been appointed since April 1, 2023.
Present at the event were the Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy, Social Welfare and Social Education Secretary Tapas Roy, Director Tapan Kumar Das, and other senior officials.
