Agartala, Oct 30 (NationPress) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha emphasized on Thursday the need for collective efforts to elevate the state’s veterinary college into one of the premier institutions in the nation. Currently, Tripura holds the second position in the Northeastern region for milk production.
During the 17th Foundation Day celebration of the College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry in Radha Kishore Nagar, West Tripura, the Chief Minister expressed aspirations for the state to attain self-sufficiency in milk and egg production.
Chief Minister Saha remarked that the infrastructure of this college is comparable to that of leading medical college hospitals. He acknowledged that veterinary science is more intricate than human medicine.
"Students pursuing this field must engage in extensive studies. I am actively addressing the faculty shortage at this college, which is vital for the state’s development. Previously, there were limited seats available for Tripura, but now, a significant medical college has been constructed with approximately 66 seats," he added.
He pointed out that India has a substantial stake in global livestock production.
"The enhancement of rural life is closely tied to livestock. This veterinary college should aspire to become one of India’s top institutions, instilling pride in its students and faculty. In the age of AI and 5G, it is essential for both students and faculty to keep their knowledge current," CM Saha stated.
At the ceremony, he underscored the necessity of advancing the quality of veterinary education.
He mentioned that Tripura has excelled in milk, egg, and meat production.
"Tripura boasts the highest per capita availability of eggs in the Northeastern region, a significant achievement for us. The state is second in milk production among Northeastern states and has reached self-sufficiency in meat production," CM Saha highlighted.
He added, "We must aim for self-sufficiency in milk and egg production moving forward. Everyone involved, alongside the government, must contribute," and announced the initiation of the Green Animal Food Development Project.
"Green animal food is currently being cultivated across approximately 286 hectares. Under the Chief Minister's Animal Resources Scheme, duck and chicken farming has commenced," CM Saha remarked.
He expressed his vision for this educational institution to gain recognition not just in India but globally.
The event was attended by prominent figures including State Animal Resources Development Minister Sudhangshu Das, MLA Ratan Chakraborty, and others.
