What is the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ 2.0 campaign launched by Tripura CM?

Agartala, June 18 (NationPress) Tripura’s Chief Minister Manik Saha on Wednesday inaugurated the national tree plantation initiative 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' 2.0 in the state, signifying the commencement of a substantial green initiative that includes over 4,000 schools statewide.

The event took place at Maharani Tulsibati Girls’ Higher Secondary School in Agartala, where the Chief Minister, along with senior officials, teachers, parents, and students, ceremoniously planted saplings.

'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' is a distinctive campaign initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging citizens to plant trees as a tribute to their mothers. This movement merges environmental awareness with emotional connections, aiming to foster ecological harmony while reinforcing the bond of appreciation towards motherhood.

Saha highlighted the dual importance of this initiative -- 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam'.

“This simple act serves two purposes: honoring our mothers and ensuring a healthier planet for future generations. Trees are life-giving, just like our mothers. They provide oxygen, shade, nourishment, and shelter,” the Chief Minister remarked.

While emphasizing both the scientific and emotional dimensions of the program, Saha pointed out that plants are the sole source of oxygen, essential for life. Thus, increasing green cover is not merely symbolic but crucial for survival.

“By involving students and their mothers, we are nurturing a personal connection to nature,” he noted.

The Chief Minister also stated that planting a tree in honor of one’s mother creates a lasting memory, instilling a sense of environmental responsibility in young minds.

He praised the enthusiastic involvement of schools and families throughout Tripura and encouraged citizens to uphold this green tradition for a sustainable future.

Later, the Chief Minister expressed on his X handle: “Inspired by Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji’s call, citizens across Tripura are joining the green movement with heart and purpose.”

“Under the School Education Department’s initiative, 1.426 lakh trees were planted last year, with a new target of 1.36 lakh more! I am honored to launch this noble drive today at Maharani Tulsibati Girls’ School and urge everyone to plant a tree in the name of their mother for our future,” he said.

This mass plantation drive aligns with broader national objectives of environmental conservation, community engagement, and climate action, reflecting Tripura’s commitment to ecological sustainability and cultural values.

Present at the event were Raval Hemendra Kumar, Special Secretary of the Education Department, N.C. Sharma, Director of Secondary and Elementary Education, along with other officials.
