Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday, 21 August inaugurated a series of education and infrastructure initiatives in Agartala, urging students to pursue knowledge with concentration and perseverance as the surest path to success in today's competitive landscape. The events were held at PM-Shri A.D. Nagar English Medium School.

Key Developments at the Agartala Programme

The Chief Minister, alongside senior officials and elected representatives, performed a central Bhoomi Pujan to lay the foundation stone for infrastructure development works at four schools: Netaji Subhash Vidyaniketan, Baradowali XII Class School, Hapania XII Class School, and Charipara XII Class School. Saha also formally inaugurated various other development programmes at the venue.

Notably, Saha also holds the Elementary and Secondary Education portfolios in the Tripura cabinet, giving the education-focused announcements added administrative weight.

Virtual Classrooms for 240 Remote Schools

A flagship initiative of the day was the launch of a pilot project to design analysis-based interactive virtual classrooms across 240 remote schools in various districts of the state. The programme is expected to benefit as many as 40,000 students who currently lack access to adequate educational resources.

'As a result, students from remote areas will be able to take lessons in Maths, Science and English from teachers based in the city through live classes. Teachers will conduct these classes from a centrally established studio. The classes will be two-way, meaning students will also be able to ask questions whenever necessary,' Saha said.

This comes amid a broader national push to bridge the urban-rural education divide, with several states piloting technology-driven classroom models in the post-pandemic period.

What the Chief Minister Said to Students

'Concentration is the ladder to success. The more one studies and remains steadfast towards one's goal, the more knowledge one will be able to acquire,' Saha told students gathered at the event. He drew from his own student experiences and advised them to pay close attention to teachers in classrooms, arguing that sincere in-class effort would eliminate the need for private tuition.

He also referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi's exam preparation programme 'Pariksha Pe Charcha', saying its central objective is to prevent students from suffering excessive stress and anxiety around examinations. Saha added that parents should focus on nurturing their children into well-rounded individuals rather than pushing them solely toward higher marks.

Land Mapping and School Infrastructure Push

Saha also launched the digitalisation of land maps in the Agartala Municipal Corporation area under the School Education Department's initiative. He described it as a pilot under Prime Minister Modi's broader land measurement modernisation vision, saying it would 'make it possible to remove the complexities involved in land measurement by using various modern methods.'

On school infrastructure, the Chief Minister said the government has directed the concerned department to collect updated information on boundary walls, drinking water facilities, seating benches, mid-day meals, and toilets across every school in the state. He added that Baradowali Higher Secondary School has been earmarked for development as a model school.

The programme was attended by Milind Ramteke, Secretary of the Urban Development Department; Samit Roy Chowdhury, Director of the Education Department; Dipak Majumdar, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA; and MLA Meena Rani Sarkar. The state government's dual focus on quality education and healthcare infrastructure is expected to shape upcoming budget allocations for the sector.
