I conveyed my sincere condolences and pledged all possible assistance from the State Government. I will also bring this matter to the attention of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami Ji, to ensure a swift investigation.”
In a media briefing afterward, Saha mentioned that he is scheduled to travel to the national capital on January 18 for a two-day meeting with all Chief Ministers from January 19-20, during which he will discuss the killing of Angel Chakma with his Uttarakhand colleague.
“Chief Minister Dhami informed me earlier that five individuals have been arrested in connection with the case, and a financial reward has been announced for information leading to the capture of the sixth suspect. Since the incident, I have maintained constant communication with the Uttarakhand government,” Saha stated.
According to the Chief Minister, the assailants first attacked Angel's younger brother, Michael Chakma, and when Angel intervened to protect him, he was brutally assaulted on December 9 in the BJP-governed state.
The Tripura government has already granted an ex gratia payment of Rs 5 lakh to Angel’s family and is considering additional assistance.
The Uttarakhand government has also provided an ex gratia payment of Rs 4.12 lakh to the grieving family, while the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) has allocated Rs 3 lakh in financial support.

The family is demanding a CBI investigation into the tragic incident.
This killing has sparked widespread outrage across all eight northeastern states, with numerous Chief Ministers and leaders from various political parties, including the BJP, Congress, Tipra Motha Party, and Left parties, calling for severe punishment for those responsible.
