“In light of this incident, the Tripura government has decided to grant a one-time financial aid of Rs 5 lakh to the bereaved family,” stated Saha, who also oversees the home ministry.
On Saturday, Chief Minister Saha had discussed the matter with Dhami, who informed him that five suspects have been apprehended and are currently in judicial custody while further investigations are ongoing.
According to reports from officials and family, the final-year MBA student, who was the son of a Border Security Force (BSF) constable, died on December 26 at a hospital in Dehradun.
Angel, who belonged to the Chakma tribal community, suffered severe injuries following an attack by a group of assailants on December 9, who allegedly used racial slurs.
This shocking event has ignited widespread outrage across the Northeastern region, with figures such as Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, Congress Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha and Assam MP Gaurav Gogoi, along with Mizoram’s Chief Minister Lalduhoma and Meghalaya’s Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, among others, condemning the act as a “barbaric hate crime” and calling for stringent punishment for those responsible.
