Agartala, March 12 (NationPress) A Tripura court on Tuesday declared a 29-year-old Bangladeshi man guilty and sentenced him to one year of simple imprisonment for 100 days along with a penalty of Rs 5,000 for illegally entering India last year, as reported by officials.
A police representative stated that the Judicial Magistrate of the first-class court located in Gomati district of southern Tripura convicted Rajib Chandra Das, a national of Bangladesh, under multiple legal provisions including the Indian Passport Act.
The court's ruling included a fine of Rs 5,000 and a sentence of one year of simple imprisonment for 100 days, according to the official's quotation of the court order.
The Investigating Officer, Kartik Dey, who handled the case and submitted the charge sheet which resulted in the conviction, noted that Rajib Chandra Das was apprehended by police on December 26 of last year.
Das hails from Pudua village in the Feni district of Bangladesh.
In a related development, a spokesperson for the Border Security Force (BSF) reported on Tuesday that the border security troops of the Tripura Frontier captured 29 Bangladeshi nationals and seven Indian nationals, including agents, during separate operations conducted from March 6 to 10 in various locations across Tripura.
The arrests involved individuals from West Tripura, North Tripura, Sepahijala, and South Tripura districts.
The BSF battalions also organized nine coordination meetings in villages bordering the affected areas to address local community concerns.
To ensure national safety and security, the BSF is enhancing its surveillance and intelligence capabilities, according to the spokesperson.
He also mentioned that the paramilitary forces have increased vigilance and intensified their presence along the International Border since the outbreak of violence in Bangladesh that began in June-July of last year, particularly after the fall of the former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government on August 5, 2024.
