Agartala, June 21 (NationPress) The state government in Tripura, led by the BJP, has successfully provided government employment to 18 individuals whose relatives fell victim to political homicides, as announced by Ratan Lal Nath, the state’s Parliamentary Affairs and Agriculture Minister, on Saturday.
The minister emphasized that these 18 individuals were granted jobs regardless of their political affiliations, while applications from five additional families are currently being evaluated.
"We previously established a committee aimed at securing government positions for those whose family members were victims of political killings. To date, the committee has processed 39 applications, resulting in 18 job placements," Nath informed the media.
The seasoned minister, who serves as the right-hand man to Chief Minister Manik Saha, remarked that Tripura experienced a significant number of political killings prior to the BJP assuming power in March 2018.
Presenting documentation, he noted that many families faced difficulties in filing FIRs with the police for various reasons, and numerous records pertaining to political murder cases are unaccounted for.
Nath, a former Congress member who transitioned to the BJP, stated that a majority of the victims hailed from families associated with the opposition Congress party, which held power in the state from 1988 to 1993.
He further stated that several BJP leaders and supporters also lost their lives due to political motivations before 2018. The CPI (M)-led Left Front governed Tripura for 35 years in two intervals—from 1978 to 1988 and again from 1993 to February 2018.
Nath mentioned that the committee, which he heads, convened its second meeting on June 19 to assess the pending applications.
Each application was evaluated based on reports from the relevant District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police, assuring that the BJP-led government has maintained a non-discriminatory approach towards the families of political murder victims, irrespective of their political leanings.
