New Delhi, Nov 23 (NationPress) Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan emphasized the vital contribution of civil servants towards realizing Viksit Bharat@2047 during his address on Sunday. He pointed out the significance of last-mile delivery, collaborative teamwork, and inclusive growth.
Speaking to Civil Services Officer Trainees at the National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes and Narcotics (NACIN) in Palasamudram, Andhra Pradesh, the Vice-President urged the officers to focus on team excellence rather than individual achievements and stressed the importance of continuous learning and reform-oriented thought.
He recognized the dedication of the probationers, noting that from around 12 lakh UPSC candidates, only about 1,000 are selected annually.
With a population of 140 crore, he mentioned that they possess a unique opportunity to drive significant societal change. "With great power comes great responsibility," he reminded them, encouraging them to utilize this chance for the nation’s benefit.
Radhakrishnan recalled the launch of the new NACIN campus by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2024, highlighting its role as a premier institution for capacity-building in Customs and GST administration.
He urged trainees to adopt emerging technologies such as AI, NLP, ML, and Blockchain, stating that technology provides vast opportunities for transparency, efficiency, and citizen service delivery.
Describing the IGOT Karmayogi app as an "excellent platform" for capacity-building at any time and place, he highlighted the importance of continuous professional development.
The event was graced by several dignitaries, including Nara Lokesh, Amit Khare, and Dr Subramanyam.
He also mentioned the significance of this year as the nation commemorates the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Father of the All-India Services, whose visionary leadership was crucial in transitioning colonial India into a robust, Viksit and Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
Radhakrishnan praised the Union Public Service Commission for being a "guardian of merit, integrity, and fairness" in civil services recruitment, especially as it approaches its centenary in 2026.
He stressed the importance of inclusive development, stating that both wealth creation and wealth distribution are crucial, echoing PM Modi’s emphasis on these aspects for national advancement.
The Vice-President described GST as a pivotal reform that has simplified the country’s indirect tax framework, highlighting the need to curb tax evasion and enforce laws for societal betterment.
He reiterated that enforcing the law of the land is the duty of officials.
