Tripura to Establish a Medical Hub: Chief Minister Manik Saha

Agartala, Jan 7 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, announced on Monday that the state government is committed to establishing a medical hub within Tripura, as stated by the Chief Minister's Office.
During a lamp lighting and oath-taking ceremony for the second batch of the Agartala Government Nursing College at the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital Complex, the Chief Minister emphasized that the government is prioritizing the enhancement of the healthcare system and overall infrastructure across the state.
"The Tripura government is dedicated to further fortifying the health system to ensure that residents do not have to seek advanced medical treatment outside the state. To expedite health services, it is essential for nurses to foster a strong bond with patients’ families during the care process," said CM Saha, who is also a qualified dental surgeon.
CM Saha, who oversees the Health portfolio, expressed that the subject of nursing brings to mind Florence Nightingale, the pioneer of modern nursing.
"She (Florence Nightingale) transformed nursing into a service-oriented profession rather than just a job. She provided care to severely injured and dying soldiers during the Crimean War through her unwavering commitment. Some individuals leave an indelible mark on the world through their actions, and Florence Nightingale is certainly one of them, having disseminated nursing practices globally," the Chief Minister remarked.
He underscored the necessity for strong management within the nursing sector of any institution.
CM Saha noted that alongside doctors, nurses have the potential to elevate the institution's reputation through their dedicated services.
"There is no substitute for hard work. The students of this nursing institution should aspire to embody the principles of Florence Nightingale. It is crucial to remember that every task assigned must be executed with the highest level of devotion. Every word of the oath taken today must be honored and fulfilled with integrity," he stressed.
This year, 49 students have enrolled in the nursing institution, an increase from 48 students the previous year.
"Currently, Tripura provides approximately 400 MBBS seats across three medical colleges. The newly established Tripura Medical College has requested 50 additional seats. If granted, the total number of medical seats would rise to around 450. An increase in medical student enrollment would be advantageous for the state," he added.
