Key Takeaways
Agartala, Nov 3 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, announced on Monday that the state administration is prioritizing enhancements in health infrastructure. He underscored the ambition to position the Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) among the nation's top 10 medical institutions.
He also highlighted the importance of boosting both the confidence and skill set of practicing doctors.
"We must ensure that AGMC reaches the top 10 in the country. This endeavor requires collective efforts; the government cannot achieve this alone. Construction of a facility for mothers and children is underway at AGMC and Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital," he stated.
During the inauguration of several infrastructure projects at AGMC and GBP Hospital, Chief Minister Saha, who also oversees the Health and Family Welfare sector, emphasized the significance of state initiatives.
Among the launched projects are the Critical Care Building, a communicable disease center, a 20-bed special ward at GBP Hospital, and an Inter Departmental Call Management System.
Currently, the state's three medical colleges offer 400 MBBS seats.
"Students need to achieve higher scores in medical examinations. The performance of Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital, Tripura Medical College (TMC) Hospital, and other district hospitals is commendable. However, there are reports of brokers in GBP and TMC hospitals attempting to influence patients to seek services outside the state. We are taking steps to address this issue," the Chief Minister added.
Additionally, CM Saha mentioned that the state has successfully completed eight hip replacements and knee replacement surgeries, along with various other significant medical treatments. AGMC is now providing diverse medical services, with plans for further infrastructure upgrades to enhance advanced medical offerings. Nine super specialties have been introduced at AGMC with an investment of approximately Rs 250 crore, with plans to launch four more services soon, contingent on budget allocations.
In a recent meeting with Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda in New Delhi, the Chief Minister discussed the urgent need for funding for infrastructure improvements.
"Minister Nadda assured that the Union government would procure the necessary equipment and tools," noted CM Saha, who is himself a dental surgeon.
He stressed the need for doctors in the state to continually enhance their skills and establish their expertise.
The AGMC's national standing is set to rise, bolstered by a grant of nearly Rs 192 crore from the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region. Additionally, Rs 202 crore has been earmarked for upgrading the dental college's infrastructure in Tripura.
Health Secretary Kiran Gitte, ONGC Tripura Asset Manager Sanjeev Kumar Janjua, Director of Medical Education H. P.
