Agartala, June 27 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, announced on Friday that the state's unemployment rate is notably lower than the national average, and the government is actively working to enhance employment opportunities further. During the distribution of appointment letters to 222 government job seekers in the education and health sectors, he highlighted that the periodic labour force survey conducted by the Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation revealed Tripura's unemployment figure to be 10%, compared to the national average of 5.80% for the financial year 2018-19.
According to the most recent survey for 2023-24, the unemployment rate in Tripura has significantly dropped to 1.7%, while the national average stands at 3.2%. This indicates a higher level of employability within the state, as noted by CM Saha.
Since the BJP government assumed power in 2018, a total of 19,484 individuals have secured government positions across various departments, achieved with complete transparency and devoid of any political favoritism.
Additionally, through outsourcing, over 5,700 individuals have found employment in different sectors, while thousands more are engaged in private security and other services. The Chief Minister also stated that the Tripura Industrial Development Corporation has created job opportunities for 1,617 people.
Following the directives of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the state government is committed to enhancing the skills and efficiencies of existing government employees. CM Saha noted that the efficiency rate among government employees nationwide was 33.95% and that recent efforts have raised this figure to 54%.
He emphasized the government's focus on education, health, communication, and the comprehensive development of tribal communities under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership.
In just the first six months of 2025, CM Saha inaugurated and laid the foundation for projects worth more than Rs 638.65 crore across various locations, indicating a continuous stride towards development.
Additionally, the Modi government has signed 11 to 12 agreements with multiple organizations in northeastern states, which have contributed to fostering peace in the region and enhancing development across all sectors.
Furthermore, Saha, who also oversees the education portfolio, announced that on June 23, Tripura achieved the status of being the third state in India, after Mizoram and Goa, to become a fully literate state, with a literacy rate of 95.6%.
