Agartala, Oct 28 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, stated on Tuesday that the state government is actively enhancing its initiatives to create a smart and digital state in accordance with the digital age, aiming to facilitate ease of living as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In a recent event, he inaugurated Wi-Fi services in 11 additional government colleges during Phase-II and launched the ‘Mukhyamantri Yuba Yogayog Yojana’ for the academic year 2024-25. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of utilizing Artificial Intelligence and the internet to advance in various fields, underscoring that technology should be leveraged for the welfare and positive development of society.
Previously, 19 government colleges in the state had already been equipped with Wi-Fi facilities, enabling students to effectively utilize online resources for educational purposes. With the addition of the latest 11 colleges, the total number of institutions benefitting from this service has reached 30.
“The introduction of the Wi-Fi system will provide substantial advantages in technology and greatly support students. The Prime Minister emphasizes the significance of technology. The youth demographic (ages 18 to 35) represents around 60 to 65 percent of India’s overall population, a remarkable fact, as no other nation boasts such a large youthful population,” Saha remarked.
He highlighted that the youth will play a crucial role in fulfilling the Prime Minister’s vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047. The Chief Minister also noted Tripura’s overall progress.
“Recently, Tripura was recognized as the third fully literate state in the country, a distinction awarded following UNESCO guidelines. This achievement places Tripura after Goa and Mizoram. Technology is now integral to every sector,” he added.
Furthermore, under the ‘Mukhyamantri Yuba Yogayog Yojana’, final-year college students receive Rs 5,000 each to purchase smartphones.
“With Wi-Fi now available in colleges, students will no longer need to pay for internet access out of their own pockets. The state government has also put a start-up policy into place,” he continued.
The Chief Minister indicated that external investors are showing interest, and a private telecom operator has been granted space for establishing data centers.
Discussing the significance of technology in healthcare, Saha, who is a dental surgeon, stated that Artificial Intelligence and the internet should be harnessed to improve various sectors.
“Significant advancements are being made in medical services and agriculture. Today, platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp all rely on technology. It is vital to provide the best services to individuals through technology, which should always be employed for constructive ends,” he noted.
The Chief Minister also stressed the necessity of establishing more mobile towers in the remote areas of the state. The event was attended by Finance and Information Technology Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, Higher Education Minister Kishore Barman, IT Department Secretary Kiran Gitte, and other senior officials.
