The Dwarka Crash: What Happened
One of the victims, identified as Gaurav, son of Arvind Deswal, sustained severe head injuries and was declared brought dead upon arrival at Indira Gandhi Hospital. His body has since been preserved at the mortuary of Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital.
The three injured persons were identified as Hitesh Yadav, 18, son of Ramesh Yadav; Harshit, 20, son of Hemant; and Dhruv, 23. Hitesh and Harshit were initially taken to Indira Gandhi Hospital before being referred to higher medical centres. A case has been registered at Dwarka North Police Station under FIR No. 349/26, invoking Sections 281, 125(a), 125(b), and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Investigation is ongoing.
Kota Bus Tragedy on Delhi-Mumbai Expressway
In a separate and deadlier incident on the same day, at least eight people — including five women — were killed and 17 others injured when a passenger bus travelling from Bhopal to Khatu Shyam overturned and plunged into a ditch on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Kota, Rajasthan.
The deceased were identified as Aruna, Vaishnavi, Trisha, Krishna, Anita, Om, Suryavanshi, and Raju. Seven of the eight were declared dead upon arrival at hospital, according to officials. Preliminary information suggests the bus driver dozed off, causing the vehicle to lose control, reportedly break through roadside railing, and fall into the ditch.
The injured were shifted to MBS Hospital and New Medical College Hospital in Kota. District Collector Peeyush Samariya and Inspector General of Police Harendra Mahawar visited MBS Hospital. Authorities received information about the accident at around 8 am. Officials noted that none of the injured was in a critical condition at the time of the report.
A Pattern of Road Deaths on High-Speed Corridors
Both incidents underscore persistent road safety concerns across India's expanding expressway network and urban arterials. Fatigued driving and late-night road conditions are recurring factors cited in police investigations of such accidents. The Kota stretch of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway has previously recorded incidents involving heavy and inter-city passenger vehicles, raising questions about rest-stop enforcement and roadside barrier standards on high-speed corridors.
