Kolkata, Oct 14 (NationPress) Two simultaneous petitions have been submitted to the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday concerning the gang-rape incident involving a tribal medical student in Durgapur, located in the West Burdwan district of West Bengal.

On one side, the West Bengal BJP has filed a request to continue its protest demonstration outside the private medical college until October 19. Conversely, the management of the private medical college has petitioned the Calcutta High Court to remove the gatherings outside the college premises, citing ongoing examinations.

Both petitions have been presented before the single-judge bench led by Justice Shampa Dutt (Paul), with the matter expected to be heard later in the day.

So far, five individuals have been detained in connection with the gang-rape of the Dalit medical student. The victim's confidential statement is scheduled to be recorded in front of a judicial magistrate later today.

The victim's family has expressed their intention to return to Odisha once her statement has been documented.

On Monday, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi reached out to the victim, who remains hospitalized. The victim herself indicated a desire to return to her home state to continue her medical education.

The Chief Minister has asserted that his government will take all necessary steps to ensure that justice is served and the culprits face appropriate punishment.
