Jaipur, Aug 15 (NationPress) A 12-year-old girl tragically lost her life and another child was injured when the balcony of a government school under construction collapsed in Udaipur's Kotra area on Friday.
The accident occurred in Patharwadi village, a region predominantly inhabited by tribal communities, where a new senior secondary school is being built.
According to police reports, the victims, Moli (12) and Payal (11), were playing near the construction site when the balcony of the hall unexpectedly crumbled.
Moli, the daughter of Shyama and a resident of Gau Pipal village, was visiting her maternal uncle in Patharwadi. Sadly, she died under the rubble, while Payal, who suffered injuries, is currently receiving medical care at a hospital.
The incident has ignited outrage among local residents, who claim that inferior materials were used in the construction.
Authorities from the police and the Education Department are currently investigating the incident.
Udaipur Education Department’s ADPC, Nanihal Singh, confirmed that the school at this location is not operational; classes are being held in another nearby facility, where Independence Day celebrations were ongoing.
In a related incident in Bundi, five students were injured when a false ceiling fell during Independence Day festivities at St. Paul Senior Secondary School.
The injured students, Twinkle (13), Adhira (6), Srishti (10), Vinay (10), and Itisha (11), are being treated at the district hospital.
In another occurrence, a room wall collapsed at Government Higher Primary School in Fatehganj, Nainwan, Bundi, during a clothing change, but fortunately, there were no injuries.
These events follow a tragic incident on July 25 in Jhalawar, where seven children lost their lives due to the collapse of a portion of Piplodi Government School.
Rajasthan Assembly’s Leader of Opposition, Tika Ram Jully, expressed, 'The news of the tragic death of an innocent girl and the injury of another in Udaipur due to the collapse of a government school balcony, along with injuries to five children in Bundi from a false ceiling fall, is profoundly saddening and heartbreaking.'
He continued, 'The recurrence of such distressing incidents reveals the government's negligence and the alarming state of our educational institutions.'
'It is a source of great shame that the government is unable to fulfill such an essential responsibility — ensuring the safety of our children. I pray for peace for the departed soul, strength for the grieving families, and a quick recovery for all the injured,' Jully concluded.
