New Delhi, March 10 (NationPress) Congress leader Udit Raj on Monday vehemently criticized the statements made by Sambhal Circle Officer Anuj Chaudhury concerning Holi festivities, emphasizing that it is the responsibility of government officials to uphold the Constitution and avoid showing favoritism towards any specific community.

The dispute arose when Anuj Chaudhary implied that although Holi is celebrated annually, Friday prayers take place 52 times a year. He further suggested that those uncomfortable with the colors of Holi should remain indoors on that day.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath supported the officer's remarks, asserting that the official, speaking as a “pehelwan,” made a valid observation regarding the importance of Holi and the frequency of Friday prayers.

In an interview with IANS, Udit Raj challenged the officer’s neutrality and the position of the Uttar Pradesh government.

“The officer’s comments obviously favor one community. His obligation is to adhere to the Constitution, not align with any group. Yogi Adityanath’s endorsement exacerbates the situation, disregarding the Supreme Court’s ruling from April 2023, which mandated that such actions should be taken suo-motu, regardless of whether a complaint is filed,” he stated.

Raj referenced the decision made by Justices Nagaratna and Joseph, which requires authorities to address any divisive speech or conduct, regardless of public complaints.

He highlighted that despite this ruling, no measures have been implemented, further emphasizing the neglect of constitutional principles.

Raj additionally asserted that the Constitution is currently under threat.

“Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, who consistently carries a copy of the Constitution, is actively raising awareness about its vulnerable state. His endeavors reflect the reality that the Constitution is in jeopardy at this time,” he concluded.

Holi, the colorful festival, is one of the most anticipated celebrations in India, symbolizing joy, unity, and festive spirit.

Holi spans two days, commencing with the celebration of Holika Dahan on the first day, followed by Dulhendi, the second day of Holi.

The festival signifies the triumph of good over evil and the onset of spring. On this day, people engage in color play, relish sweets, and celebrate with music and dance.
