Bengaluru, Oct 6 (NationPress) The UMEED portal designated for Waqf Boards is set to include support for multiple languages in the near future, as announced by the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs on Monday.
The declaration was made during a one-day regional meeting aimed at enhancing the capacity of Waqf Boards and refining the UMEED Portal, according to an official statement.
The Union government, through this Ministry, is dedicated to modernizing Waqf administration and maximizing the developmental potential of Waqf properties for the advantage of minority communities, as noted in the statement.
The Southern Zonal review meeting of the UMEED (Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency, and Development) portal saw participation from Waqf Boards across Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana, as reported.
Discussions concentrated on the effective management, advancement, and ownership of Waqf properties via the UMEED Central Portal. Since its launch in June 2025, Waqf Boards nationwide have been required to upload all Waqf property details within a six-month timeframe, according to the statement.
Representatives from Southern state Waqf Boards mentioned that they have already commenced this process and are eager to expedite it in the coming days. Various states have requested that the portal be accessible in regional languages, as mentioned.
In a positive response, officials from the Ministry confirmed that the portal will be designed to accommodate various languages over time.
The officials also stated that the UMEED portal will become increasingly user-friendly in the near future. Furthermore, the southern zone states, including Karnataka, shared updates about their respective Waqf Boards' activities.
The portal employs a three-tier maker-checker-approver system to guarantee transparency, accuracy, and accountability in data entry and verification.
This program was organized as part of the Ministry’s initiatives under the Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency, and Development (UMEED) Act, 2025, which was enacted in April of this year, according to the statement.
During the meeting, the Ministry sought insights from state officials and Waqf Board representatives to improve operations and enhance coordination.
Participants were encouraged to share their experiences and propose suggestions for better implementation of the UMEED Act, 2025, as stated.
