Amaravati, Feb 20 (NationPress) The United Nations International Computing Centre (UNICC) is set to create a Centre of Excellence for artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum technologies at the Amaravati Quantum Valley, located in the capital city of Andhra Pradesh.
A letter of intent confirming this initiative was signed during the AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi on Friday, attended by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
In a post on social media platform X, the Chief Minister stated that the new Centre of Excellence will establish Amaravati as a Digital Embassy for secure AI, enabling sovereign and cybersecure AI deployments that meet UN-grade standards.
"This collaboration will introduce international best practices and foster global partnerships, placing Andhra Pradesh on the world stage as a trusted hub for AI and quantum readiness," stated Chief Minister Naidu, who also engaged with Sameer Chauhan, UNICC Director, and Anusha Dandapani, head of UNICC's AI Hub.
The Andhra Pradesh government inked a total of seven memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with various organizations during the summit.
The state has teamed up with BharatGen, NexGen, and IBM India to launch a comprehensive statewide AI Tech Hub.
Chief Minister Naidu emphasized that this initiative is designed to empower all citizens—from farmers to fishermen—setting a national benchmark with an inclusive, Telugu-first, citizen-focused AI, aiming for future integration with Quantum-AI.
Additionally, the Andhra Pradesh government has signed an MoU with the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) to establish its inaugural South India campus in Amaravati.
According to the Chief Minister, "The Skill Development division of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, NIELIT (Deemed to be University), will bolster Andhra Pradesh's development as a center for Quantum and AI education. This partnership will also focus on enhancing India's semiconductor ecosystem through skill development."
Furthermore, the Chief Minister announced a collaboration with IBM aimed at training one lakh talented individuals across Andhra Pradesh in AI, Cybersecurity, and Quantum Computing.
He added, "Over the next three to five years, our learners will acquire industry-aligned, future-ready skills, significantly enhancing the state's emerging tech workforce."
The state has also signed an MoU with Michigan-based Calibo, Inc. to support over 50 higher education institutions in Andhra Pradesh with AI curriculum frameworks, sandbox environments, faculty development, and applied programs aimed at enhancing student skills and employability.
"Moreover, the Andhra Pradesh government, via the Real Time Governance Society, is establishing a state-level AI Sandbox in partnership with Calibo. This secure environment will facilitate the design of smarter, faster, and more efficient public services that meet citizens' needs more effectively," stated Chief Minister Naidu, expressing pride that a native, Raj Vattikuti, is contributing world-class expertise to enhance local talent and public services.
