New Delhi, Oct 13 (NationPress) As the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee is under fire for her remarks regarding the Durgapur gangrape incident, several senior leaders from the BJP have launched severe criticisms of her handling of the state's law and order. Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak stated, "The law and order situation in West Bengal is extremely poor. In the upcoming days, Mamata Banerjee will face the repercussions of her actions." This sentiment echoes the frustration resonating throughout the opposition.
BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal further added, "Mamata Banerjee's comments are indicative of her utter failure in governance. The law and order in Bengal is in a dire state. She lacks control over her administration, leading to such incidents occurring."
Leaders from Odisha also expressed their disapproval of Banerjee's questioning of the rape survivor about her decision to be out at night. Aiswarya Biswal, president of the Odisha BJP Mahila Morcha, remarked, "It is not only outrageous but also deeply unfortunate that a female Chief Minister is advising girls to avoid going out in the evening when she admits to having no authority over private colleges. This clearly demonstrates her inadequate administrative capabilities."
These responses followed CM Mamata Banerjee’s controversial statements regarding the Durgapur gangrape case. In her initial remarks, she questioned how the student managed to leave her private college campus at 12:30 a.m., suggesting that "girls should refrain from going out at night."
She also criticized the private medical college for permitting the student to leave and urged students, particularly those unfamiliar with the area, to be cautious. Describing the incident as "shocking," she assured that strict action would be taken, noting that three suspects had already been apprehended.
Earlier, Amit Malviya, chief of the BJP Information Technology cell and the party's central observer for West Bengal, took to social media to accuse the Chief Minister of misrepresenting facts regarding the victim’s late-night outing.
According to the medical college authorities, the victim had left the campus at 8 p.m. to get food and was subsequently attacked by three men in a nearby wooded area. Malviya stated, "The girl, who is a Dalit, was not gang-raped on the college property. Therefore, the responsibility of ensuring her safety lies with the police and the state administration. The Chief Minister attempted to shift the blame to the medical college."
