Agartala, April 20 (NationPress) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha stated on Sunday that ongoing elections throughout the year impede development efforts, squander financial resources, and disturb everyday life.

During a discussion regarding ‘Unified Elections’ (ONOE), organized by the BJP Tripura Pradesh Legal Cell, he underscored that the implementation of ‘Unified Elections’ would enable voters to effectively exercise their democratic rights.

“In order to make the democratic process more citizen-centric and focused on development, the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has presented the ONOE Bill in Parliament,” Saha, who is also the former Tripura state BJP President, stated.

He remarked that PM Modi continuously makes significant decisions, fulfilling his promises, citing the abolition of Triple Talaq as an example despite the initial fears of unrest.

“Critics predicted riots, but nothing transpired. We have only one true leader - Prime Minister Modi. Since independence, only two genuine leaders have emerged -- Atal Bihari Vajpayee and now PM Modi,” he asserted.

Saha pointed out the discussions surrounding Waqf, questioning the actions of others regarding illegal land claims. “They can seize any land at will, including government properties, by falsely claiming it as Waqf land,” he mentioned.

He emphasized the urgency of the Waqf Act due to certain individuals attempting to incite conflict.

“Additionally, three criminal laws have been enacted, allowing anyone to file an FIR at any police station. The ONOE has been successfully implemented in various nations and can be adopted in India as well,” he asserted.

The Chief Minister highlighted the considerable financial and time resources consumed during multiple elections.

“If the ONOE is adopted, voters can fully exercise their rights. Even during regular elections, development initiatives are affected, especially in education where significant manpower is diverted. We must endorse this initiative,” he concluded.

Present at the event were BJP State President and Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharya, BJP’s state assembly Chief Whip Kalyani Roy, state party Vice-President Subal Bhowmik, and social activist Ashok Sinha.
