New Delhi, Feb 2 (NationPress) Opposition parties launched a fierce critique of the Union Budget on Monday, alleging that the government has neglected the issues facing ordinary citizens. They claimed the budget favors a select group while marginalizing the youth, farmers, laborers, and small business owners.

Congress MP Imran Masood vehemently denounced the budget, arguing that it offers nothing substantial to vast segments of the population.

In a statement to IANS, Masood expressed, “This budget is void of provisions for the youth, farmers, small entrepreneurs, and small traders. There isn't a single mention of their needs.”

He characterized it as a budget that will burden the general populace, declaring it one of the most unfavorable budgets in history. “This is a budget tailored for the affluent, for the wealthy, and for the establishment of large data centers,” he remarked.

Masood further criticized the government's lack of focus on job creation, highlighting the despair among young individuals. “If people lack financial means, how can they travel on bullet trains? The education budget has been slashed, and scholarships have been curtailed,” he noted.

Congress Rajya Sabha MP Jebi Mather also condemned the Union Budget, challenging the government's narrative of Atmanirbhar Bharat, asserting that workers' and farmers' rights have been progressively undermined under the current administration.

“Atmanirbhar Bharat is only feasible when the citizens are content,” Mather remarked. “They have stripped away the employment guarantees under MGNREGA, which was introduced by the UPA government. They have taken away farmers' rights. How can they advocate for Atmanirbhar Bharat when they have removed the right to employment itself?”

She insisted that without reinstating job security, safeguarding farmers' rights, and upholding the dignity of labor, such proclamations remain devoid of substance.

Mather emphasized that Opposition parties will persist in voicing their concerns over what she labeled as anti-people policies while demanding accountability from the government.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav also criticized the Union Budget, claiming it has been crafted to benefit a privileged few rather than the general populace.

“This budget does not cater to the common people. It is intended solely for a select group,” he stated.

Challenging the government’s vision of Viksit Bharat, Yadav questioned whether the claims align with the reality on the ground. “Has anyone visited villages and truly observed a developed India?” he inquired.

Pointing to the Jal Jeevan Mission, he alleged widespread mismanagement and corruption in its execution, asserting that despite substantial expenditures, rural conditions remain stagnant. “Those in Delhi are oblivious to what transpires in villages,” he commented, adding that development slogans are meaningless unless benefits reach the grassroots level.

Point of View

I believe that the Union Budget's impact on the average citizen must be at the forefront of policy discussions. The concerns raised by the opposition highlight a significant gap between government policies and the realities faced by the populace. It is crucial for the government to address these grievances to foster a more inclusive economy.
