Jammu, Aug 30 (NationPress) Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to arrive in the Jammu division for a two-day visit on August 31 and September 1 to evaluate the destruction inflicted by the recent severe floods in the area.
According to official sources, HM Amit Shah's visit will include an assessment of the devastation caused by the floods, which tragically resulted in the loss of nearly 150 lives, including around 130 pilgrims.
“The Union Home Minister will land in Jammu on the evening of August 31 and will depart back to the union capital on the evening of September 1. A team from the Ministry of Home Affairs will accompany him during this visit.
“On the evening of August 31, he will conduct a high-level meeting at the Raj Bhawan to review the flood damage throughout the Jammu region.
“The Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will participate in the meeting and provide the Home Minister with updates on the destruction, ongoing relief and rescue operations, and the restoration of infrastructure in the area,” sources revealed.
The floods caused extensive damage to roads, bridges, and civilian properties such as houses, shops, and farmland, leading to the inundation of residential areas and disrupting the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine and the Machail Mata Yatra. The destruction was exacerbated by heavy rainfall, cloudbursts, and landslides.
HM Amit Shah is expected to meet with injured pilgrims at Narayana Hospital in Katra town, particularly those affected while on the way to the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine.
He will then conduct an aerial survey of the damage inflicted by the cloudburst and subsequent flash floods at Chashoti in Kishtwar district, where 65 individuals, primarily Mata Yatra pilgrims, lost their lives and over 100 others sustained injuries during a massive cloudburst on August 14.
Furthermore, he will visit various locations in the Jammu district that suffered significant flood damage. The Union Home Minister is scheduled to return to New Delhi on the evening of September 1.
There is a growing anticipation that the Central government may announce a substantial relief package for those affected and for the damaged infrastructure in the days to come.
It remains to be seen whether HM Amit Shah will unveil a relief package during his forthcoming visit to the Jammu division or if it will be announced following his on-site assessment of the devastation caused by these natural disasters.
